OSRS Slayer GUIDE

Slayer is a members-only skill which is considered to be one of the hardest skills to reach level 99 in.

The way that the skill works is players are assigned a set amount of NPCs to kill by a Slayer master. These NPCs will then provide a set amount of Slayer experience. As a player's Slayer level increases, the more valuable the potential rewards that the NPCs drop.

The Slayer experience provided is divided into two categories; Most damage overall & Last hit. This means that 50% of the experience gained will be for inflicting the most damage on the NPC and 50% of the experience is rewarded for the killing blow.

Players can make in excess of 1 billion gold on their journey to 99 Slayer dependant on the method that they choose to pursue.

Players are only able to have one Slayer task at a time. If a player feels as though they're unable to complete the task then they are able to use Slayer points (mentioned below) to cancel or block it, providing they have enough to do so.

If a player does not have enough Slayer points to cancel the task, they are able to speak to Turael in Burthorpe and he will give the player an easy task.

BEWARE: THIS WILL RESET YOUR CURRENT SLAYER TASK STREAK TO ZERO, MEANING YOU WILL NEED TO COMPLETE 5 TASKS TO RECEIVE SLAYER POINTS AGAIN

Slayer Points

Upon completing 5 Slayer tasks, players will start receiving Slayer reward points after each task that they finish, with the exception of Turael whose tasks will not give any points at all.

Bonus points are also awarded for every 10th, 50th, 100th, 250th & 1000th task that a player completes.

Slayer reward points can be used for various unlocks which include but are not limited to:

Skipping/blocking tasks, unlocking items such as the Herb Sack, unlocking training methods such as Broad Bolt/Arrow fletching, unlocking teleportation methods with Slayer rings & Slayer-specific related unlocks such as superior monsters, boss tasks & extended tasks.

Points per task Points per 10th Points per 50th Points per 100th Points per 250th Points per 1,000th Location Notes
Turael 0 0 0 0 0 0 Burthorpe Changing a task with Turael resets their task streak, making the player need to do another four tasks to receive points once again. Completing tasks set by him contributes to the four needed to start gaining points. Players should not use this Slayer Master, especially if near a milestone task (e.g. 10th, 50th, etc.).
Mazchna 2 5 15 50 70 100 Canafis Mazchna's tasks are fast and easy, players should use him if they wish to start earning points at a low level.
Warning: Even though the first 4 tasks do not give Slayer points, they count as 4 of the first 10 for higher amounts of reward points.
Vannaka 4 20 60 100 140 200 Edgeville Dungeon Vannaka gives more experience per task than Machzna. However, his tasks will take longer.
Chaeldar 10 50 150 250 350 500 Zanaris Players who find that they complete Vannaka's tasks quickly should switch to Chaeldar, for better experience and more Slayer points. These tasks are longer than Vannaka's.

Mount Karuulm Konar's tasks provide the most points outside of the Wilderness, but her tasks can only be completed by killing monsters where she tells you to kill them. Killing them elsewhere would not reduce the amount needed and would provide no experience. The amount of Slayer points received increases if the player has completed the Kourend & Kebos elite diary.
Krystilia 25 125 375 625 875 1,250 Edgeville Krystilia's tasks offer the most points, but her tasks can only be completed by killing monsters found within the Wilderness. Assignments from her have a separate task completion counter from standard assignments.

Suggested Training Route(s)

The NPC's that a player is assigned are dependant on 5 variables.

  • The player's combat level
  • The player's Slayer level
  • The quests that the player has completed
  • The task's weighting in comparison to other tasks.
  • The Slayer master chosen

Location is also a factor in the cases of Krystillia and Konar Quo Maten, respectively.

It is because of this that there is no suggested training route but rather guidance dependant on the player's goal.

Point Boosting (Safe):

If the player is looking to boost their points safely, they should visit Turael in Burthorpe for 9 tasks straight, utilising a Dwarf Cannon and Blowpipe to slay the monsters effectively.

For the 10th task, the player should use Konar Quo Maten. If Konar is not a viable option for the player, they should choose a Slayer master more suitable for their combat level.

The 10th task must always be a multiple of 10. This method will not work if you start at 18 tasks for example, as the point boost only happens on the 10th increment.

Profit (Safe):

Players looking to make the most potential GP per task should complete all of their tasks with Konar Quo Maten (75 Combat required) as NPCs have a chance of dropping Brimstone Keys, which allow you to open the Brimstone chest next to Konar (average loot is ~100k)

The downside to using Konar is her tasks are also location restricted, meaning that killing NPCs of the same type outside of the area that she assigns the player does not count towards their task.

This also means that usage of a cannon is not possible in certain areas, bringing the experience per hour down by a lot.

Experience:

Players looking to optimise experience would benefit from using Nieve/Steve, or Duradel if they're looking to make slightly more profit. Most players opt for this route of Slayer.

Pursuing this method of Slayer training would also net the Player huge profits on the way to 99. Players may want to switch to Konar Quo Maten for their bonus reward streaks to maximise points.

Most tasks on these Slayer master's task lists are cannon friendly as the player is able to choose where they want to slay the NPC. Players concerned solely about experience should utilise a Dwarf Cannon at any time possible.

Wilderness:

Players willing to risk their items in the wilderness in exchange for Slayer experience are able to get tasks from Krystillia.

Krystillia's tasks do not factor the player's combat level in when selecting a task, so a level 3 account could be assigned high combat NPCs such as Black Demons.

Her tasks can only be completed inside of the wilderness. PVP worlds do not count unless the task is completed inside of the wilderness on the PVP world.

Wilderness Slayer tasks operate on a different counter from regular Slayer tasks and do not count towards your existing Slayer task streak.

When slaying inside of the wilderness, players have the opportunity to receive Mysterious Emblems, which can exchanged for points at the Emblem trader north of Edgeville bank.

Players also have a chance at receiving Larran's Keys, which can open chests inside of the wilderness for more rewards.

Wilderness slayer is also a great way to gain slayer experience if the player has a Dwarf Cannon, though they should be careful of PKers whilst in the wilderness and should not pick up their cannon if attacked.
