PickpocketingTo start training Thieving one must first begin by pickpocketing. Pickpocketing is the act of walking up to an NPC and right clicking them, then selecting Pickpocket. If successful, you will gain Thieving experience and possibly coins or various items. If unsuccessful, the NPC will catch you trying to pick their pockets resulting in a short stun and being dealt a small amount of damage, but as your level increases you will have a better chance of success.
Contrary to common belief, the player does NOT need to wait until the pickpocket animation is finished before pickpocketing again. The NPC may be pickpocketed as soon as the sound of the item stolen entering your inventory is played. This could effectively double your experience per hour if you were previously waiting for the animation to finish.
A useful trick that allows pickpocket spamming is by going to the Controls (Joystick) settings tab and changing the attack option priority to 'Always right-click', this effectively turns the Attack NPC left-click into pickpocket NPC left-click for most NPCs.
StallsSeveral stalls can be found throughout RuneScape, many of them are in the Ardougne Market as well as various other locations. Unlike pickpocketing NPCs, stealing from stalls have a 100% success rate as long as you are not in the line of sight of the stall owner or any of the nearby guards. It should be noted you may not interact with the stall owner for up to 10 minutes (while logged in) after the last theft from his or her stall. You must be logged in for this cooldown period to go down and logging out will pause this time.

To disarm a chest with a trap; simply select the "Search for traps" option on the chest and your character will disarm the trap allowing you to obtain the loot inside of the chests. DoorsSome doors in RuneScape cannot be opened by players unless the lock is picked. In order to pick a lock, right-click on a door and select "Pick Lock"; some doors will require a lockpick to use this option. Picking locks rewards no loot but you will gain experience depending on the door. Most doors that require picking will have a thieving level requisite. If all the requisites are met the door will be unlocked.

There are around 20 quests in Oldschool RuneScape that grant Thieving Experience, most notably the Fight Arena quest which has no requirements and will instantly get you from level 1 to 14. It is recommended you complete this and several other quests listed below for fast thieving experience. It is also noteworthy to know that you will gain 12,175 ATTACK experience for completing this quest, in case you do not wish to level up your Attack level.
There is also a vast amount of useful equipment you can use in your quest to get to 99 thieving such as a Dodgy necklace which reduces your chance of being stunned by 25% from NPCs. This necklace is extremely useful especially at low levels.
The next suggestion is the Ardougne diary. The medium diary gives you a 10% chance at success in ardougne and for the Hard and Elite diaries they reduce your chance of failing by 10% per diary- this effect is applied all over RuneScape and you do not need to be wielding the equipment for the chance to take effect. Here is a list of other equipment you can obtain to boost your experience-per-hour whilst thieving on RuneScape.
Rogues den equipment - Each piece gives a small chance of getting double loot and having the full equipment gives you a 100% chance of obtaining double loot whilst pickpocketing NPCs. There are 5 parts to the set. This will significantly boost your money-per-hour.
Gloves of silence - Requires 54 hunter - does not stack with Ardougne diary - only recommended for players who have not completed the Ardougne hard/elite diaries and are thieving outside of Ardougne.
Alternatively for level 1-5 it is recommended that you pickpocket Man and Woman of RuneScape which averages at 5,000 attack experience per hour, you need 49 pickpockets for level 5 thieving.
Levels 5-20 - Cake stalls in Ardougne, these stalls are pretty good experience for the level, estimated around 10,000 experience per hour it will take 256 successful steals to complete this part and should take approximately 20 minutes of your time.
Levels 20-25 - Silk Stalls in Ardougne, these stalls are also pretty good experience for the level, estimated at around 15,000 experience per hour it will only take 141 successful steals to complete this part and should approximately take 10 minutes of your time. You can sell the silk you steal back to the merchant for approximate 30-40,000 gold per hour.
Levels 25-45 - Hosidius fruit stalls, these stalls require 15% house favour and are very good experience for the level, estimated around 40,000 experience per hour. If you complete the Fued quest you will gain more experience per hour and you only need to steal 1,452 times in order to get to level 45. If you do not have the quest complete you’ll need to steal 2,148 times in order to get to level 45. It is recommended you trap the Guard Dogs in the room by the stalls to avoid attack damage. The Fued quest requires 30 thieving & rewards 15,000 Thieving experience which will get you from levels 30 to level 37 thieving instantly and will allow you to start blackjacking.
Levels 45-91 - Blackjacking - Blackjacks are a group of members' only melee weapons. They are used in Thieving to knockout certain NPCs found in Pollnivneach. For levels 45 to 55 it is recommended you blackjack Bearded Pollnivean bandits- you only need to hit them 1,618 times to achieve level 55 thieving, this is estimated to be around 60-80,000 experience per hour and will reward you roughly 100,000 GP per hour.
At level 55-65 you can start blackjacking the NON-bearded bandits carrying scimitars. These will give you 100-120,000 experience per-hour and you will need to steal 3,355 times to achieve level 65. At level 55 you also unlock the ability to steal from the Ardougne Knights, it is recommended you take with you a dodgy necklace and wear the Rogues outfit for maximum efficiency. The experience-per-hour grows exponentially depending on your Thieving level. At level 80-95 you can achieve from 140,000 to 250,000 experience-per-hour. If you complete the medium diary you’ll completely stop failing at level 95 and getting to level 99 you’ll receive just under 8 million GP from this. It is also recommended you take a coin pouch with you. World 378 is the unofficial world for this activity.
At levels 65 to 91 it is recommended you steal from the Menaphite thugs, you will need to steal 39,662 times to get to level 91, it is estimated you will achieve from 150,000 to 230,000 experience per hour and ~200,000 GP per hour. You will need to bring noted food which can be used on the bank merchant for unnoted food. Ali the barman stocks 13 wines for 1 coin each.
91-99 - Pyramid plunder in Sophanem - it is recommended you wait until you can do the final room in this minigame as it yields the most experience-per-hour. You will need 7.13 million experience to achieve level 99 at this point, you’ll receive roughly 250,000 experience per hour. It is recommended you stock up on weight-reducing gear such as Boots of Lightness, prayer & anti-poison potions as well as food and stamina potions. You need to have started Ichlarens little helper quest to start this minigame or teleport using the Pharoh’s Sceptre.
At level 84 thieving you can steal from the Rogues chest in the wilderness which can grant you 130-170,000 experience-per-hour and from 400,000 to upwards of 550,000 GP per hour.
